This has been quite a vintage. Like 2008, the growing season was a little cooler than usual and we had a really late start to summer. Veraison was later than it probably has ever been and in September I was wondering if we'd get to harvest anything. But, lo and behold.. the Farmers Almanac was correct and the improbably glorious weather that was forecast for October materialized and, like 2008, we got wonderful grapes. They were just a month later than we thought we'd get them.
We were lucky enough to contract with, among others, three twenty-year-old vineyards for the Jezebel Pinot Noir. The goal for the Jezebel Pinot Noir this year was to keep the fruit forward, accessible style yet add a extra layer of complexity which we hope we will have managed. Time will tell ....
We produced Jezebel Blanc of course, and some tiny lots of a few things that will be available just to wine club members and in the tasting room next year: Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and a Brut Rose - our first bubbles!
Of course the star of the harvest was the estate Pinot Noir - 6.9 tons from the 7 planted acres. It was harvested on October 26th, fully ripe and in exquisite condition. It was fermented in small 1.5 ton lots using native yeasts after a two week cold soak. Total skin contact was 28 days. There will be around 375 cases total and it will be released probably in September next year.
